this tiny ground-dweller is running for cover (Panama; 2008-05-28)

Little Tinamou
Crypturellus soui

Native Range: Latin America

Notes: a very small, drab, and seemingly tailless tinamou of forest interiors; the name of the genus to which it belongs comes from the Latin roots kruptos meaning covered or hidden, oura meaning tail, and ellus meaning diminutive; thus, the kruptos part of the generic name could just as well refer to the hiding habits of this secretive species or to its covered tail; no sexual dimorphism.
