Pied-billed Grebe
Podilymbus podiceps
Native Range: North America and Latin America
Notes: a common small grebe of vegetated ponds, readily told by its stubby chicken-like bill and truncated rear end; feeds by diving head-first, but when trying to hide can also submerge slowly like a submarine; eats invertebrates such as crayfish, as well as aquatic vegetation.
