Native Range: North America and Middle America

Notes: the western counterpart of the Eastern Towhee in the USA. but shows more spotting on wings and back; little sexual dimorphism except that female is darkish gray where the male is black; a common inhabitant of brushy habits; hops rather than walks; does a repeated 'double-scratch' back-kick when foraging on the ground.
