Scrubfowl
Megapodius reinwardt

Native Range: Australian Region

Notes: scrubfowl are megapodes or "mound-builders" that build mound-shaped nests of sand or decaying vegetable matter in which their eggs are incubated; the male typically tends the mound, often adding or removing material to regulate the heat of the interior where the incubating eggs are housed; all megapodes, of which there are nearly 20 species, are round-bodied chicken-like birds collectively native to Australia and nearby islands in the South Pacific; this particular species has bright orange legs; no sexual dimorphism.
