Notes:
Chiloe, from which this species gets its name, is an island off the coast of Chile where this bird is common; inhabits shallow lakes with dense water vegetation; males are noisy in courtship, form strong pair bonds, and assist in broodcare; little sexual dimorphism except that the drake is slightly brighter in plumage than the hen.
