drake in breeding plumage (California, USA; 2011-02-27)
|
Green-winged Teal
Anas carolinensis
Native Range: North America
Notes:
a tiny duck; despite its common name, not as closely related to Blue-winged Teal and Cinnamon Teal as are the latter two species to one another; its counterpart in Eurasia is the Eurasian Teal, formerly considered conspecific; except for their distinct wing colorations displayed in flight, hens of all four of these teal species are nearly indistinguishable.
