nesting colony on a rocky promentory (South Africa; 2007-07-05)
|
Cape Cormorant
Leucocarbo capensis
Native Range:
Africa
Notes:
a large all-dark marine cormorant, easily dwarfing the Crowned Cormorant with which it is sympatric along much of its coastal range in southwestern Africa; no sexual dimorphism, but juveniles are much browner than the nearly all-black adults; the specimens do, however, show some scaling on the upperparts; turquoise eye and orange-yellow throat also help to identify this species.
